LOCAL X: Colorado’s In The Whale (10/19)
In The Whale may call Denver 'home' now, but the alt/punk duo, who's been on the road with bands like the Toadies, Jane's Addiction and The Darkness, formed years ago in Greeley. The band is making a return to Northern Colorado for two shows this weekend for the release of Quicksand EP, out Friday, October 21.
If you've seen In The Whale live, it's hard to believe that just a couple guys could bring that kind of noise and energy, but when they hit the road, they stay a two-piece band.
Eric: We always felt like it was just a little bit different, the dynamic we have on stage as a two-piece, you know, two guys up front; two frontmen. And it's not like we're anti-bass player or anything, we just kind felt like it was a cool look on stage.
Nate: Originally it was a necessity. No one like, wanted to play with us... because we were bad.
E: Now we know it's been a good show if a bassist comes up to us and asks us if he can play for us.
In The Whale -- 'American Eyes'
In The Whale has been on the road with Electric Six, but is doing two back-to-back EP release shows for Quicksand, which was recorded at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins.
You know Bill [Stevenson] and the Descendents' song, 'Coffee Mug?' 'I don't need no booze or drugs, I got my coffee mug.' That is real. - Eric on Blasting Room coffee.
On Friday, October 21, In The Whale will be at the Moxi Theater in Greeley, and Saturday, October 22, the band will be at Hodi's Half Note in Fort Collins. Tickets are on sale now through both the Moxi and Hodi's, and 94.3 The X will have your chance to win them by tuning in.
