What’s You Favorite Bee Gee’s Song? – Survey of the Day

From 1958 until 2003 three brothers: Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb sang three-part tight harmonies that were instantly recognizable and they called themselves the Bee Gees.  After selling over 220 million records, entertaining fans for four and a half decades, and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the Bee Gees name was retired in 2003 after the sudden death of Maurice. In 2009, however, Robin announced that he and Barry had agreed that the Bee Gees would re-form and perform again. Now that Robin is gone, all we will have is memories of the Bee Gees. Here are ten little known facts about the Bee Gees...

1. One of the brothers, Maurice Gibb simply loved paintball, and he even had a team named the Royal Rat Rangers.

2. Robin and Maurice Gibb are the twins of the Bee Gees.

3. They were initially known as the Rattlesnakes, Wee Johnny Hayes and the Alleycats, before being introduced by racetrack promoter Bill Goode to DJ Bill Gates, who was responsible for the name most of us had come know them as, after the initials of both men, and not an allusion to 'Brothers Gibb', which could be perceived as a popular notion concerning the band.

4. Odessa is perhaps the only Bee Gees album without a picture on its cover as it is all in red. The album title song is also seven minutes long.

5. The Bee Gees Hall of Fame citation implied that only Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Garth Brooks managed to outsell the Bee Gees.

6. Most of their songs were covered by prominent names such as Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Al Green, Eric Clapton, Lulu, Elton John, Tom Jones, Nina Simones, John Frusciante, Feist, Billy Corgan, Michael Bolton, Robert Smith, Ardijah, Jinusean, Faith No More and Destiny's Child.

7. Cucumber Castle, released in 1970, was the only Bee Gees album without Robin Gibb, as he decided to go solo in 1969, as a result splitting up the band.

8. Trafalgar was the Bee Gees' first reunion album in 1971.

9. Maurice Gibb died at the age of 53 on January 12, 2003 and the cause of death was ischemic enteropathy, or 'a twisted intestine'.

10. 'I Just Want To Be Your Everything' was written by Barry Gibb, the eldest of the Bee Gees and sung by Andy Gibb, the youngest of the Gibb brothers. It was the first of three consecutive Billboard Hot 100 singles for the aspiring singer then.
