Red Rocks Amphitheatre Is Returning to Full Capacity
Colorado's iconic outdoor venue will return to a capacity of over 9,500, just in time for summer shows. 9NEWS reported that starting Saturday, May 22, the venue will up capacity from 2,500 to 6,300, and by June 21, will resume events at a full capacity of over 9,500 people.
That means shows like Dirty Heads, Lindsey Stirling, Foreigner, Machine Gun Kelly, 311, Midland and more will be at full capacity.
While Colorado now has a mask 'suggestion,' rather than a requirement, Red Rocks said that masks are required in indoor spaces at the venue, like the restrooms, visitor center and the Trading Post. And, in case you missed it, Red Rocks is even offering the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine at select concerts this summer. So, if you haven't gotten a vaccine yet, and you're OK with a sore arm at a show, then you have that option, endorsed by Diplo.
In 2020, Red Rocks was one of the few live music venues that actually got to be open for business, because it is outdoors. However, only for a few months when both weather and local and state guidance permitted. And, the venue couldn't hold more than 175 people per night, and hosted very few non-local acts. If you think that really jacked up ticket prices, you're right! (Remember those $6,000 Nathaniel Rateliff tickets and waiting to be chosen by lottery? Never again, please.)
Though Red Rocks was able to sort of reopen, at the end of last year, the venue said that 2020 resulted in a $50 million loss for the venue.
