Mike Shinoda: Linkin Park Have ‘Every Intention on Continuing’
Earlier today (Jan. 25), Mike Shinoda released a three-song EP titled Post Traumatic, which focused on processing the loss of Chester Bennington and the emotional weight that has come in the wake of the tragedy. Fans have been speculating the band's future and now it appears there is a future as they're intent on continuing under the Linkin Park moniker.
A tweet from Shinoda (seen below), reads, "I have every intention on continuing with LP, and the guys feel the same. We have a lot of rebuilding to do, and questions to answer, so it'll take time."
"The past six months have been a rollercoaster. Amidst the chaos, I’ve started to feel an intense gratitude — for your tributes and messages of support, for the career you have allowed me to have, and for the simple opportunity to create," he said when speaking about his solo EP. It features the songs "Place to Start," "Over Again" and "Watching As I Fall," and there's portions of the songs that address the difficulty of trying to navigate what to do next in his professional life without Bennington in the group.
In October of last year, we learned that Linkin Park remained uncertain about what do to next, but it appeared they were not ready to declare that the band was finished. Despite Bennington's death taking place in July, the group waited until October to officially announce they'd be canceling their three scheduled appearances in Japan. A statement read, in part, "We have been looking forward to being with all of you, but unfortunately cannot play our previously scheduled performances in Tokyo. Until now, we have not communicated about our November shows because we sincerely wished to play, even in the wake of Chester's passing. We are working each day to grieve, heal, and work towards stepping on stage together without our dear friend. "
