Another Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Dream House Raffle has come and gone, and for another year there was no winner of the Dream House. It seems pretty clear that no one will ever win a housel; is it time to change the premise?

Yes, there were over 4,000 mostly-Colorado winners of prizes, including cash, vacations, and cars, but not a winner of the Dream House up for grabs. It's not "officially" a rip-off, but it doesn't pass the "sniff" test, that's for sure.

No one is arguing that it wouldn't be great to win one of the Dream Houses that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Dream House Raffle has offered up over the last 15 years, but if there's really no chance at winning it, why even call it a "Dream House" raffle? Is that they are afraid folks will stop playing?

It was in March of 2023, that we told you about how the chances are very, very slim for anyone to actually win the dream house, because they have to sell 80,000 raffle tickets to "activate" the house giveaway. According to 9News, just over 50,000 tickets were sold for the 2023 raffle.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HOUSE THAT THEY DIDN'T GIVE AWAY IN 2022?

It turns out, that the Denver Broncos new Head Coach, Sean Payton, now owns that home. The 2023 home that was being offered is right next door to the coach.

HOW MUCH MONEY DOES THE DREAM HOUSE RAFFLE BRING IN?

According to 9News, in 2022, the raffle sold nearly $8 million in $150 tickets. One third went to the running of the raffle, one third went to covering the cost of the prizes awards, and one third went to the Denver Boys & Girls Club.

WHAT DOES THE GRAND PRIZ WINNER ACTUALLY WIN, IF NOT THE HOUSE?

Cash. Up to $2 million.  The house that they were "raffling off" for 2023 was valued at about $14 million.

WILL THEY STOP SAYING IT'S A "HOUSE" RAFFLE?

It's not likely, but it sure seems like that they should, if nobody's ever won it, so far. What if they billed it as a [Big] Cash Raffle? They'd take the shady-ness out of it, and they'd still be getting money to help out kids.

Enough is enough, isn't it?
