Vans Warped Tour Will Come to Denver For the Last Time in 2018
That's right, like all good things, the iconic 100-degree rock music fest in a parking lot is coming to an end next summer after a 24-year run.
Man, what a role Warped Tour has played in all of our adolescence, hasn't it? I used to go to them back in the late 2000s, so it had already been an established travelling music festival for over a decade at that point.
Vans Warped Tour has been on the road every summer since 1995, launching skate punk bands like Blink-182 in the late '90s, emo-era acts like Paramore in the 2000s, and even pop stars like Katy Perry (yes, really, I saw her in 2008) to success. So, sadly, today the organizers announced that 2018 would be the last cross-country run, however there is a glimmer of hope for 2019.
Here's what Founder Kevin Lyman released in a statement:
'Today, with many mixed feelings, I am here to announce that next year will be the final full cross-country run of the Vans Warped Tour...
The Vans Warped Tour was the platform to witness the rise of pop punk with Sum 41, Simple Plan, MXPX, New Found Glory and Good Charlotte.
The birth of Emo – with bands like Thrice, Thursday, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack and Jimmy Eat World.
Fast-forward to the summer in 2005 when TRL and Warped Tour helped launch the careers of Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold...
The enduring spirit of the Vans Warped Tour remains as bright as ever, continuing to inspire creativity and ambition in new and exciting ways as we prepare for a 25th anniversary celebration in 2019. – Kevin Lyman, Founder of the Vans Warped Tour via vanswarpedtour.com
