In person, Julia DiVerdi is sweet as, well, a cupcake, but she's frosted with spunk. Coincidentally, she was my guest at The Lunch Table on National Cat Day - meeeeow! How purrrfect, right?

Personally, I tend to be fairly reserved. More comparable to your grandma's home-made chocolate chip cookie than a sassy cupcake. I will, however, venture out of my comfort zone in the name of journalism, which is how I ended up 'bumping and grinding' in a corset and boa in Julia's central Fort Collins studio (video coming soon).

Burlesque isn't just about transforming into a sex kitten on stage. It's celebrating femininity, embracing our bodies and forming a sisterhood.

'We embrace all female bodies; we're all beautiful,' DiVerdi said. 'We like to have something for everyone...all women in all shapes and sizes are gorgeous, and all women can do this; be a show girl and own the stage... I love that celebration of variety of beauty.'

Catch The Cupcake Cabaret's Halloween show this Saturday (Oct. 31) at Avogadro's Number. Auditions will be held on November 15 as they look for one exceptional lady to join their burlesque lineup, but any woman can take DiVerdi's classes to learn how to better shimmy, shake and strut their stuff.

You can find out exactly what The Cupcake Cabaret is all about, and what they are looking for in a dancer by listening to Julia DiVerdi's on-air interview:
