The Killers Are Talking About Their Heavier New Record

Prepare for a crunchier version of the Killers with their upcoming, first full-length album since 2012's Battle Born. Frontman Brandon Flowers told Q magazine in a new interview, "There are moments that feel heavier than anything we’ve ever done, not that we’re the heaviest band in the world, but they have a finesse because of our experience. There’s also really beautiful things. Lyrically, it’s really close to home.”

Flowers has told us before that he always wants the Killers to be changing musically: "Hopefully, it's evolving, would be the best way to describe it, because we want to be able to change. People that we like, like David Bowie and the Beatles, you know, they were able to change the way they looked and give you something fresh, and we really admire that."

Flowers also teased some song titles,including "Rut" and "Run For Cover," the latter of which he admitted first originated in the sessions for the band's third album, 2009's Day And Age. Flowers mentioned, "I never got the lyrics right and I think I’m gonna get it right this time.”

He also hinted at a track called "Tyson Vs. Douglas," named after the famous 1990 boxing match between Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas. He said, "I think about it all the time and I finally tried to tackle it in a song, what it meant to have this hero of mine get torn down, and then everything that happened after that.”

Flowers did not say if the band's fifth studio effort would make it out this year.
