Poudre Fire Authority Responds to Dump Truck Fire

Just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, Poudre Fire Authority and Loveland Fire Rescue Authority responded to a vehicle fire near Coyote Ride Natural Area, on the southwest side of Fort Collins.

According to Poudre Fire Authority, the truck driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the vehicle. She then pulled over and dumped the load, which was on fire, onto a dirt parking lot. Firefighters said that the flames were around four feet tall upon their arrival, but they were able to knock down the fire quickly.

They also commended the driver for pulling over into the parking lot, because in doing so, she likely prevented sparking a grass fire. There were no injuries reported, and the truck was OK. Crews cleared the scene by 10:30 a.m. How the fire started in the back of the truck has not been disclosed.

When not battling blazes, Poudre Fire Authority has had a busy summer in Fort Collins, rescuing dozens of people from the Poudre River. While it's fun to tube, kayak and raft close to home, Poudre Fire Authority warns against recreating in the river right now. Authorities say that it's usually safer by late July, so be patient (we know, it's hot).
