Based on the CDC's most recent recommendations, Boulder County is the latest place where residents can get a booster shot of the Pfizer vaccine.

As Larimer County continues to hit bed capacity in ICUs and the Delta variant surges in Colorado, the booster shot recommendation has been long-awaited by many in the community. About 67% of cases in Colorado are the Delta variant.

Special concern, since the beginning of the pandemic, has been for people over 65 as they are considered high risk. The CDC has recommended the booster shot for people over 65 years old since Sept. 23.

The CDC has now officially recommended it for anyone 18 and older who, due to personal preference, wish to receive the booster of the Pfizer vaccine.

According to a release from Boulder County Public Health, the booster shot will be completely free. Residents will not need to show proof of ID, medical insurance, or medical history. People can self-report that they are eligible for the booster shot without having to present proof of why.

The CDC has recommended that the best time to receive the booster is at least six months after the initial two shots. For those who are severely immunocompromised, the suggested timeline is receiving the booster 28 days after the initial vaccination.

More information on the booster vaccine, as well as vaccine locations, are available online.

Currently, anyone ages 12 and older are eligible for full vaccination with the Pfizer vaccine, but not Johnson & Johnson or Moderna.
