The Glasgow trio played a show at the Aggie Theatre last fall, and we hope they'll be back. With 'Leave a Trace' hitting the airwaves, they're definitely going to catch on.

Chvrches has been making recent headlines for more than dropping their newest single, however, with frontwoman Lauren Mayberry's confrontation of online misogyny going viral. With their second album, Every Open Eye, on the way, the band premiered the video for 'Leave a Trace,' which enticed a firestorm of derogatory threads on the site 4chan. Why? We're not really sure.

When it comes to women being sexualized in music videos, whether it's Miley, Minaj or the misogynist himself (read: Robin Thicke), I can see where controversy and nasty words start to brew. Everyone has their own opinion; I won't get into that.  What's so alarming is that a video of Mayberry singing in a black dress suitable for a high school dance has ignited a fire of feminine slandering.

According to The Independent, Mayberry was called out by anonymous 4chan users for being a 'slut', 'whore' and a 'bitch' immediately following the video's August 17 release. Mayberry responded to the slew of degrading comments with the statement, 'Dear anyone who thinks misogyny isn't real. It is and this is what it looks like,' linking to the 4chan thread.

That aside, what bothers me is that this is a beautiful song and video from a great band who had an artistic vision, and it's getting attention for all the wrong reasons. It's so much easier for misogyny to exist behind a keyboard, and rob Chvrches of something they worked hard to bring to life.

You can hear Chvrches 'Leave a Trace' on the air on The X at 94.3-FM and anywhere you go with the RadioPup mobile app.
