Memorial Day, it's a day, heck it's an entire weekend, to grill, have fun, BBQ, enjoy the nice weather, and for many, get a long weekend to relax and have fun.

Amidst all of that stuff, which is nice, is the true meaning that often gets lost in the whole Memorial Day celebration.

Memorial Day, while being a time to enjoy yourself, is also a day that needs to be recognized for exactly what it truly is. And that's a day to reflect on those who lost their lives giving the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. The men and women who we've lost while serving our country and defending our freedoms.

While nobody expects you to mope around for the entire weekend, it's very important to understand the true meaning of Memorial Day and truly appreciate why we're able to do all of that fun stuff that we like to do over the long weekend. And that's because of the brave men and women who sacrificed so much for us to do those things.

Many believe it's about thanking and recognizing our veterans, and while that is an awesome thing to do anytime, that's not what Memorial Day is all about. It's remembering the ones that we've lost while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

So sure, go ahead and enjoy yourself and do the things you normally do on Memorial Day weekend. But the only thing I hope you'll remember is the true meaning of what this particular day is for and to take a moment to reflect.

There are plenty of things going on in and around Northern Colorado to help honor and recognize our heroes that we've lost.in the line of duty.
