There are days Fort Collins traffic can be a nightmare without having to deal with construction. That means that if you can find alternate routes around Mason Street for the next three weeks it would be very beneficial to your sanity. Beginning today, Mason Street from Laurel to Cherry streets will be closed to traffic for three weeks to accommodate a pair of projects.

The roadwork is all part of projects to replace a mile of BNSF Railway tracks and to convert  the street for two-way traffic to make way for the Mason Corridor and the MAX bus rapid transit system.

Access to local businesses will be open throughout the closures, said Claire Thomas, spokesperson for the city. Drivers may use alleys off Mountain and Olive streets to reach Oak Street. Flaggers will be stationed along major streets to direct traffic and keep access open. The city has provided businesses with free parking vouchers good for the two downtown parking structures to give to customers.
