We have all done it... Forget we have that book we checked-out from the local library for a couple months after it was due back. Or maybe even had the dog eat a book or two. You have two choices you can avoid the library the rest of your life, or you can go back and pay your late return fines. Now you can exchange a donation to the Weld Food Bank for fine forgiveness at High Plains Library District libraries.

The libraries are in Greeley, Eaton, Erie, Firestone, Johnstown, Hudson and Platteville. From October 7th through the 20th they will offer patrons up to $5 off their fines each day they bring in a food donation. One can is $1 off fines and the maximum forgiveness is $70 for the whole promotion.

Last year’s food drive brought in 4,000 pounds of food for Weld Food Bank.

Some of the most needed food items include canned yams, cranberry sauce, boxed stuffing, instant potatoes, fruit juice, gravy, pie filling, canned meat and canned soup.
