It was just earlier this week that I was on my soapbox talking about the need to get out and enjoy what mother nature has given us in Northern Colorado. But now it seems like what mother nature has given, she can just as easily take. The taking I am speaking of is the water in Horsetooth Reservoir which is dropping by as much as one foot per day, as drought conditions have pushed the reservoir down 42 feet.

Horsetooth could drop another 15 feet by the end of the month, according to Brian Werner with Northern Water Conservancy District.

Much of the water is being routed to help farmers irrigate.

Werner says the water level "isn't unusual" for a year like this one, with low snowpack to start the year and drought conditions. He says Horsetooth levels dropped to a similar level about a decade ago, as well.
