Fort Collins has seen a lot of changes since 1971, but one thing that doesn't change? February brings a wide variety of high temperatures.

With January, we are recovering from the holidays. It's February, when we really start to get our feet under us for the new year. The average high temperature for The Choice City in February is a whopping 37.8 degrees. I find that amazing, after looking back over the last 50 years February's high temperatures in Fort Collins.

February is a big month, with Valentine's Day, the Super Bowl (this year,) Presidents Day and my birthday. OK, maybe my birthday isn't that big of a deal, but those of us Aquarians who have February birthdays have known some very chilly ones, and that's not a real joy.

One neat fact from this research of the highest high temperatures in Fort Collins for February since 1971 is that, not one of these high temps falls on a Leap Day. It's like Mother Nature knew it would mess up the whole thing, so she pushed it up to the 28th day.

You can look back and say, "What was the hottest day in February when Nixon was in office?" "When I was born in 1982, what was the hottest day in February for Fort Collins that year?" "My husband and I had our first Valentine's Day in 2002, what was the hottest February day that year?"
