Thanks to Mental Floss' Afternoon Map, we can see just how unattainable this aspect of the 'American Dream' is for some of us, particularly here in Colorado. If a 40-hour work week is considered the standard, then Coloradans will have to accept that home ownership may not be in the cards.

According to, to be able to afford a monthly mortgage, the average Coloradan earning a median income should be working between 60 and 70 hours per week.
