Laramie is kicking Fort Collins' butt with the Bronze Boot, according to WalletHub's list of '2022's Best College Towns & Cities in America.' Ouch.

Fort Collins often gets so much praise when it comes to 'best of' lists, and with Colorado State University in the heart of the city, it's a little shocking that our hometown was snubbed in the rankings. But, if it's any consolation, Fort Collins did rank higher than Boulder, which is really what we care about, right?

According to WalletHub, Laramie, the home of our Border War rival University of Wyoming, is the 23rd best college town in the entire country. Fort Collins, however, is a full 100 towns behind at number 123. WalletHub looked at things like the wallet-friendliness of each city — which yeah, Fort Collins, you could do better — as well as the social environments and the academic opportunities.

You can't really argue that Fort Collins doesn't have a lively social scene, especially for college students. And, there's definitely academic opportunities, but the cost of living in Fort Collins is what's probably killing our ranking.

Fort comparison:

  • Average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Laramie is currently around $650
  • Average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Fort Collins is over twice that, at $1,333

Boulder, home of the University of Colorado, came in just behind Fort Collins at number 136 in the country, while University of Northern Colorado's hometown of Greeley took a beating, at number 317 (I'm sure there are some Bears who'd beg to differ). You can see the full list from WalletHub here.
