Former CSU Star Janay DeLoach In Action At Olympics Today
It is fun to cheer for the Americans in all of the Olympics events, but as we have seen with Missy Franklin it is even more fun to cheer for our neighbors from Colorado. Even if it is not the most prestigious sport in the Olympics like swimming I will still be watching and cheering for former CSU long jumper Janay DeLoach as she competes in London today.
DeLoach is in the second of two 16-competitor groups and will jump 12th in her group. Competition starts at noon MDT.
I am almost there. I can almost taste it. But on August 7th and 8th, I will be as ready as anyone can be to make the most of my year. I will be ready to attack my goal — MEDAL…A GOLD MEDAL.’’ DeLoach wrote on her website while in London.DeLoach enters the competition as a medal contender after recording a wind-aided jump of 23-feet, 5 ½ inches in the prelims of the U.S. Olympic Trials, which is the second-best mark in the world this year. She had a best of 23 feet, ¾ in the finals of the trials to finish third.
In the qualifying round, jumpers receive three attempts with the top 12 advancing to the finals at 1 p.m. MDT Wednesday. In the finals, competitors receive three jumps with the top eight advancing for another three jumps. Those jumpers receive another three jumps to determine the three who will receive medals.
