Former Broncos Player Mourns Tragic Loss of 2-Year Old Daughter
A former fan favorite of the Denver Broncos is going through an unspeakable tragedy, after his 2-year old daughter was found drowned in the family's Tampa swimming pool over the weekend.
Tampa Police confirmed that Arrayah Barrett, the 2-year old daughter of Shaquil and Jordanna Barrett, was found in the family's swimming pool around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 30. After emergency staff responded to the home, she was taken to a nearby hospital but all efforts to revive here were unsuccessful.
Arrayah was the youngest of the Barretts' four children. Shaq and Jordanna were high school sweethearts and were married in 2012, before he ever played in the NFL.
Now 30 years old, he was an un-drafted free agent rookie for the Broncos in 2014. He played five years in Denver and had some success, climbing the ranks of the roster to eventually become a starter on defense. He was a member of 2015's Super Bowl championship team, and after becoming a free agent in 2019, opted to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In his first season on the Gulf coast of Florida, he led the league with 19.5 sacks and was named to his first Pro Bowl. A guy by the name of Tom Brady showed up the next year and they, of course, won a championship, Barrett's second and Brady's seventh. Arrayah was born two months after Barrett and the Bucs beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.
Shaq just signed a new deal with the Bucs, good for 4 years and $72 million.
After the tragedy over the weekend, the the Buccaneers have come out in support of the Barrett family and issued the following statement:
Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time. While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.
