Descendents Announce Headlining Show at Mishawaka This Summer
While Vans Warped Tour revealed this summer would be its last on the road, the summer rock festival is bringing Punk Off! to the Poudre Canyon this summer, featuring the Descendents and a local lineup.
Punk Off! will be an inaugural one-day competition at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre on June 9, 2018. Five local bands will be competing as they open for the Descendents' show that evening, and two winning bands will get to perform at the (last ever) Denver Warped Tour date on July 1.
In a press release, Mishawaka Amphitheatre General Manager Dani Grant said, 'This event celebrates local emerging musicians that don’t always get the opportunity to play on big stages to big crowds... While [Descendents are] obviously legends, we like to consider them local legends, as well. Despite their worldwide recognition and international tours, they do so much to support the local music scene and truly put Fort Collins on the map.'
Descendents drummer, Bill Stevenson, co-owns The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, where artists like Rise Against, Alkaline Trio and many more have recorded albums.
The five bands competing are Fort Collins' Bitter Suns and Plasma Canvas, Denver's One Flew West and Dryer Fire and Cheyenne's Sunnydale High.
