The Denver Broncos are almost officially under new ownership and they have another pretty strong name now involved with the franchise in the form of former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice joining in the ownership group.

So now in addition to the Walton-Penner Ownership Group, all Wal-Mart family heirs, along with Mellody Hobson, co-CEO of Ariel Investments and chair of the board at Starbucks, Condoleeza Rice now is officially a part of the Denver Broncos and Broncos Country.

Rice is no stranger to the Broncos and Colorado in general, she moved to the state when she was twelve and attending the University of Denver. So yeah, Broncos Blue and Orange is definitely in her blood and so is football in general:

In the past, Rice has been connected to jobs with the Cleveland Browns as a coach and was even in the running to become NCAA President.

"Secretary Rice is well known as a passionate and knowledgeable football fan who has worked to make the sport stronger and better," Rob Walton said in his statement, which also noted Rice is the daughter of a football coach and has Colorado roots, having attended the University of Denver for both college and graduate school. "Her unique experience and extraordinary judgment will be a great benefit to our group and the Broncos organization."

The official sales agreement between the Walton-Penner group and the Broncos is this close to being a done deal. The next step is getting approval by the NFL finance committee. After that, at least 24 teams in a full ownership group vote must approve the sale.

The team hopes to have a new owner in place by the beginning of the regular season.
