While some of the history is unclear, what we know is that in October of 1943, a training B-17 bomber crashed into the mountains near Fort Collins, killing all passengers on board. The wreckage still remains 75 years later.

Near Colorado State University's Pingree Park Campus, you can hike to the crash site and see some of the remaining debris, like engine and wing parts.
