A 32-year-old woman was arrested and jailed following reports that she had crashed a car that was left unlocked and running in a Greeley parking lot.

At about 10:55 a.m on Jan. 28, police say the owner of a 1999 silver Cadillac reported that his vehicle had been stolen after he left it running and unlocked as he ran inside a store on the 2600 block of 10th Street in Greeley.

According to the Greeley Tribune, police were able to obtain surveillance video showing a woman walking past the man’s vehicle before jumping in and driving off.

Later that afternoon, at about 12:55 p.m, Weld County deputies responded to a hit-and-run crash on Weld County Road 49, near WCR 70; When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the stolen car disabled.

32-year-old Angel Gamez was arrested shortly after trying to flee the scene on foot, according to arrest records.

A mail carrier said she was driving south on Weld County Road 49 when Gamez swerved into her lane and struck her vehicle. Gamez was able to travel about 200 more yards before stolen car became disabled.

There is no indication of any injuries sustained by the mail carrier.

Gamez was booked into the Weld County Jail on suspicion of aggravated motor vehicle theft, traffic charges and a drug possession charge. She a disposition hearing at 10 a.m. on March 5 in Weld District Court.
