Why Your Internet May Have Gone Out in Colorado Recently
It’s felt like we have had a lot of issues with both cell service and the internet in Colorado recently.
Not long ago, a huge Verizon outage took out many Coloradans service, which definitely made a bunch of people pretty unhappy.
On the other hand, there have been programs put into place, like Fort Collins’ Affordable Connectivity Program, that expired this year. This left a ton of people without affordable internet access.
Fortunately, strides are being made at the state level with programs like BEAD, which is supposed to give people fast internet at an affordable cost.
However, some may have experienced some outages along the Front Range recently, and the reasons why have been released.
Recent Internet Outages in Colorado Likely Due to Vandalism
Many times when there’s internet outages across Colorado, it’s usually for the same couple of reasons.
For example, the biggest reason you might see wide scale outages could be due to thunderstorms. Linked to that is just overall power outages.
However, many people along the Front Range, mostly within the Denver area, lost connection for a completely different reason; vandalism.
According to FOX 31, it began when Aurora Fire Rescue had to respond to a grass fire that took place early in the morning on Sunday.
As it would turn out, it came from within a communications vault. Later on when CDOT investigated, the fire was gone but the fiber cables were completely melted.
While it may seem like an accident, it seems to be a deliberate act against the broadband industry.
In an email that was received by Maverix Broadband customers, they found that the entire fiber infrastructure has been under attack for the past two weeks.
Hopefully, instances like these will end soon so people will not be disconnected again.
