The Weld County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) is asking online private investigators to refrain from vigilante justice.

The agency took to Facebook to address a YouTube community attempting to catch possible child predators in Colorado — and to ask them to stop.

"The Weld County Sheriff's Office wants to partner with the Weld County community as we strive to make our streets safer, however we are not participating in, nor do we support the efforts of these YouTube groups as their actions represent a direct threat to the safety of the Weld County community," said WCSO in a Monday (Jan. 16) post.

The post further explained the threats these groups pose, stating that their endeavors often bring suspects from outside of Weld County into the area and prompt unauthorized car chases.

WCSO noted that the groups are also obstructing investigations by failing to follow "sound constitutional guidelines," resulting in suspects getting a "free pass" for their crimes.

"The Weld County Sheriff's Office will continue our efforts to hold criminals accountable for their actions in our efforts to provide effective public safety services with honor and integrity, but at this time we are unable to partner with online content creators to accomplish this mission," said WCSO.
