The COVID-19 pandemic may be trying to put a damper on this ski season, but the gnar gods are not having it.

In a Tuesday (March 9) press release, Vail Resorts announced that it will extend the 2021 ski season in order to give mountain enthusiasts more time in the snow.

"It is a way of saying thank you to pass holders and guests for their continued support, for following safety protocols and showing personal responsibility during this unprecedented season, and for helping us open and stay open," read the release.

The following resorts will be extending their closing dates:

  • Vail Mountain Resort - Sunday, April 18
  • Keystone - Sunday, April 11
  • Beaver Creek - Sunday, April 11

If COVID-19 and weather conditions allow, the release noted that the above resorts could stay open even longer.

However, not all resorts will enjoy extended closures. Breckenridge Ski Resort is still expected to close on May 31, while Crested Butte Mountain Resort is projected to close on April 4.

Even though counties in Colorado are beginning to shift to Level Blue, COVID-19 restrictions will still be in place for the remainder of the season at Vail Resorts.

Reservations, face coverings, and social distancing is required while on the mountain. But, this is a small price to pay if it means Coloradans get to shred the gnar for a little bit longer.
