summer

Summer is almost over, and just like that your world is turned upside-down. Here's my list of things that I get sad about (or excited about) every autumn.

School

I have been in school for the last 18 years of my life (give or take). Every year during the middle of August I start to sweat profusely and get sad about spending every single week-day for the next 6 months inside listening to a teacher drone on about math or whatever. Granted, I'm in college and almost done with school, but that just makes me loath it all the more. However, I do get excited for my classes every new semester for about a week, then the grind just sets in.

Bikini Season

Not on me, thank God, I don't have the legs for bikinis. One of the best things about the summer is shorts and swimsuits on the ladies. When it starts getting warm outside and tan lines start to come out is excellent. When it gets cold and everyone starts covering up though, that's less exciting.

Grilling

"But you can grill during fall and winter." Yes, you can, but you can't have a cookout like you can during the summer. There is something about sitting outside during a warm summer evening with a slice of watermelon in one hand, some grilled corn on the cob in the other, some lemonade in front of you and a huge slab of cooked meat on your plate that is inherently summer. It's just not the same when you have to run inside because you are afraid of getting frostbite while grilling.

Long Days

Not having to drive home in the dark from school or work when it's only six in the evening is great. When it's still sunny out as late as eight or eight-thirty in the evening is pretty fantastic and makes for a good long day at the lake.

Summer Blockbusters

This year was lame in the movie department. But since Jaws, summer has been the go-to time of the year for really big (and hopefully good) movies to grace our silver screens. The only other time of the year where movies are this good is usually around Christmas time. Bonus: during the summer you can leave the movie theater and it's still light out.

Snow

This is more of a love-hate relationship. On the one hand: I love throwing snowballs at unknowing people passing by. On the other hand: snow is wet and it gets everywhere. On the other hand: snowboarding and skiing. On the other hand: its cold. On the other hand: snowmen. On the other hand: wait hold on that's like six hands.

Reruns

This is actually something I get excited for. Not the reruns, but that all the new TV shows usually start up at the beginning of Fall. South Park starts up it's new season, the Breaking Bad season just started; things are looking up. No more summer reruns.
