LPD said that, despite no injuries, police did not believe the shooting to be "a random act."

After "efficiently tracking down numerous leads," officers were able to identify a 16-year-old as the suspect. On-site witnesses helped to confirm the teen's involvement.

On Tuesday (Oct. 4), detectives located the suspect and took them into custody, where they may face the following charges:

  • Murder in the 1st Degree (Attempt) | Class 2 Felony
  • Menacing, 5 Counts | Class 5 Felony
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile | Class 2 Misdemeanor

9News reports that the Eighth Judicial District Attorney's Office will decide whether or not to file the above charges. In the meantime, LPD is not identifying the suspect due to their minor status.

"We understand there are going to be a lot of questions the community has regarding who this person is, however since he is a minor we are not authorized to share anything else," said LPD in a Facebook comment. "We hope you understand."
