While the cost of living continues to grow in the city of Fort Collins, wages throughout the region continue to stay the same. Now PSD teachers are feeling the effect.

According to the Coloradoan, state funding is limited heading forward which means teachers in the district are part of a step freeze for the next school year. This means that no raises will be given based on years of experience or merit.

The story states that first year teachers in Poudre School District make $36,207 per year.

The freeze comes into effect as rental prices throughout the city continue to climb and are some of the most expensive in the country.

The Coloradoan recently cited information from Apartmentlist.com which showed that median rents in Fort Collins go for $1,248/month. A two bedroom/two bathroom in the city goes for $1,397.

Officials say that the district does want to give raises to the teachers, but the state funding isn't there to be able to cover it.

Other negotiations are currently taking place concerning the pay for teachers next year, and the final agreements hopes to be finalized in the near future.
