#tbt These Were the Top Alternative Songs on Nov. 12, 2001

WARNING: SAUSAGE FEST AHEAD. I've never been so grateful for what alternative music is today, because where it came from ain't pretty. It was 2001, and these bands we laugh at now were at the top of the Billboard charts on November 12.

I mean, is this even really alternative? It just sounds like angry douche rock to me. If that wasn't a genre, it is now. Ironically, no matter how many Creed and Nickelback jokes I could throw into this post, they were genuinely successful 'alternative' bands, according to the historical document that is the Billboard archive.
