A Big Rainfall Could Mean Big Problems for Greeley
It was well documented that Greeley gets it's water from the mountains near where the first wildfire was burning earlier this spring near Fort Collins. The residents in Greeley lucked out though, that the ash and soot from the Hewlett Gulch Fire didn't affect their drinking water. That could all change. Should a big rainfall come, that could mean big problems for Greeley's water.

Some progress is being made on the High Park Fire. It is now at 43,372 acres and 10% contained. The evacuation area south of County Road 38E from Gindler Ranch Road west to Milner Ranch Road was lifted yesterday. However, new evacuations were ordered yesterday.

The Greeley City Council will hear a report at 5 p.m. today, June 12 regarding the current and possible impacts of the High Park Fire on Greeley’s water supply. The presentation will cover the challenges to Greeley’s water supply and the actions the City is currently taking and will take in the future to ensure that the community’s water resources are safe for residents and other water customers.

Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith says Human remains have been found in the burned home of a person reported missing after the start of the massive High Park Fire west of Fort Collins. The remains are believed to be those of 62-year-old Linda Steadman. The High Park Fire is currently at 43,433 acres with some containment.

I often wonder when there is a huge tragedy like a wildfire that destroys homes and peoples lives, why we worry so much about what caused it while there is other work to be done. Human nature, I guess is the answer. We look so quickly to blame someone, to make someone a villain. With the High Park Fire though, the villain was mother nature. Officials say lightning started the now 41,000 acre fire.
