It may be Godsmack frontman Sully Erna’s birthday today, but he just provided some news that should serve as a great gift for Godsmack fans worldwide. Godsmack hasn’t released any new music since their 2010 album ‘The Oracle’ and although the band has confirmed that they’ve been working on a new offering, very few details have been shared yet.

It has been a while since the last Godsmack studio album. 'The Oracle' was released in May of 2010, although the live album 'Live & Inspired' came out last year. Now comes word that the band is working on their next album.

Godsmack and Pop Evil are gearing up to perform at the the Jackson County Fair in Jackson, Mich. on Aug. 5, but the show did not come without a bit of controversy throughout the community.

The lineup for the 2013 Heavy MTL festival has been revealed, with Avenged Sevenfold, Rob Zombie, Megadeth and Godsmack leading the way. This year's event is scheduled for August 10 and 11 at Montreal's Parc Jean-Drapeau and will feature two solid days of metal and hard rock acts.

Godsmack's time off is giving the band members to spread their wings a little and explore some of their passions. For frontman Sully Erna, that means he's getting the opportunity to branch out to the big screen. The vocalist has signed on to make his feature film acting debut in the upcoming Woodhaven Pictures film 'Army of the Damned.'

The worlds of hard rock and electronic music don't cross paths that frequently, but at Canada's upcoming Boonstock festival, there will be a full-on collision of the two genres. Booked for June 27-30 over the Canada Day weekend, the festival will take place in Gibbons, Alberta, with Godsmack, Limp Bizkit and Sebastian Bach leading the way.
