A middle school student was cited after displaying a gun and making threats at a Fort Collins middle school.

According to an official press release from the City of Fort Collins, Fort Collins Police received reports of a student who had displayed a gun and made threatening statements while on Lincoln Middle School property on Wednesday (Apr. 28).

School Resource Officers immediately conducted an investigation and made contact with the student after receiving reports regarding the incident. The weapon was determined to be a BB gun by officials. The student was cited for Interference with Staff, Faculty, or Students of an Educational Institution.

"The safety of our students and staff is a matter we take seriously," said Sgt. Laura Lunsford, who supervises the School Resource Officer program. "I'm grateful for the quick response of SROs and partnership with staff to resolve this situation and minimize disruption to the learning environment."

Due to statutory privacy protections afforded to juveniles, the student’s name will not be released, according to the press release.

All charges are simply an accusation by law enforcement officers, and all parties must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
