Drivers making the evening commute on C-470 yesterday had anything but an easy time, as an estimated 30 vehicles were involved in a massive pile-up that shut down parts of the highway for several hours.

Snow started falling quickly in Denver and the surrounding areas late in the afternoon, which greatly decreased visibility for drivers. The first call about a wreck came in to Colorado State Patrol at 3:13 p.m., followed by reports of lots of other smaller crashes, causing one big mess. Although some injuries were reported, none of these were described as serious. A Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy cruiser was among one of the vehicles involved in the wreck. Westbound lanes began to reopen around 7:15 p.m., with the area fully clearing by 8:30 p.m.
