'The Needle and the Damage' done is a tattoo series produced by Loudwire and presented by the Inkcarceration Music and Tattoo Festival. Each episode was shot on site at the festival's location in Mansfield, Ohio, at the Ohio State Reformatory, which is also where scenes from the 'Shawshank Redemption' were filmed. Here, artists reflect on the artwork scrawled into their flesh, recollecting their first tattoos, the most painful ones, deeper meanings and, of course, the stories behind them allEnjoy while you anxiously await the announcement of next year's lineup. Keep an eye out because tickets go on sale in December!

Shinedown drummer Barry Kerch is unlike our other guests so far in Season 2 of The Needle and the Damage Done, in that he's not completely covered in tattoos. While he has at least one he regrets getting done, most of the others hold a deeper and significant meaning.

Let's get to the regret — it's nothing major, it's "just a bad skull" he got on the road, which he advised against. Kerch had another note for tattoo artists, which was not to talk so much while you're working.

Some deeper tattoos involve a tribute to his grandmother and his favorite city, fourth century era Celtic writing on his forearm and, finally, a newly done chest piece that was done in tribute to his daughter, Stella, who would rather tell her friends her dad is a pirate than let them know he's a rock star.
