I am not sure what the true meaning of a one hit wonder is, but Great White has to be on the cusp. Ask someone to name Great White songs and they will probably say "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" and then get stuck. That 1989 hit defiantly made them rock stars, but Great White hasn't gone anywhere. They will be at the Greeley Stampede Saturday night (June, 30th) opening for Creedence Clearwater Revisited, and I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with one of Great White's original members, Michael Lardie.

Before "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" Great White had already built up a cult following, and after the big hit they rode out a wave of moderately successful singles such as "House of Broken Love" and "Call It Rock & Roll."

Bad break-ups and a night club fire that killed 100 people is what made headlines for Great White more recently, but it's not all bad. The band, now without original singer Jack Russell who has his own band called Jack Russell's Great White, has moved on to their 12th studio album, Elation, and continues to tour. It is the first Great White studio album to feature vocalist Terry Ilous. Additionally, it is the first one without original vocalist Jack Russell.

Listen to my conversation with Great White guitarist/keyboardist/backing vocalist Michael Lardie...
