Rocky Mountain National Park to Partially Reopen Friday
The National Park Service announced that some areas of Rocky Mountain National Park will reopen on November 6, after closing in October due to the East Troublesome Fire.
Areas that will reopen include roads, parking areas and trails in Wild Basin, Longs Peak, Lily Lake, Twin Sisters, Lumpy Ridge and US 34 through the Fall River Entrance to Many Parks Curve as well as the Endovalley Road. Old Fall River Road will be open to bicycles, leashed pets and walkers. - National Park Service press release
The west side of Rocky Mountain National Park remains closed because of fire damage an 'ongoing assessments.' On October 30, it was reported that East Troublesome Fire and Cameron Peak Fire, which have together charred over 400,000 acres, had burned nearly 30,000 acres of the park.
The Cameron Peak Fire and East Troublesome Fires burned simultaneously over the last month, and are Colorado's largest and second-largest fires respectively. As of November 5, Cameron Peak Fire is 92 percent contained and East Troublesome Fire is 37 percent contained.
