Wireless carrier loyalty is sinking. People are jumping ship more than ever when it comes to cell phone companies. On average, cell phone customers switch wireless companies as soon as their two-year contract ends.

Competition in the wireless market is at an all-time high.

“Competition is fierce, and pricing is a key element,” said Pierre-Alain Sur, global communications industry leader at PwC. “That accelerates the jump from one carrier to another at the end of a contract period.”

Smaller wireless companies seem to be affected by the new trend more than the three largest carriers including Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, but they didn’t fare much better. The average cell phone user under contract with the larger carriers lasted only 51 months.
