Exploring Colorado's Powderhorn Wilderness Area

The Powderhorn Wilderness area dates back to the mid-1800s. Before that time the Spanish at Ute Indians used many trails in this area to cross the tundra en route to places like the Uncompahgre Valley or the Cochetopa Pass.

Located in the far northern fringe of the San Juan Mountains, the plateau and trail areas in the Powderhorn Wilderness Area offer views of the San Juan, Elk, and Sawatch mountain ranges. It's a really beautiful place to see.
