Poudre, Thompson School Districts Will Not Reopen This School Year
On Wednesday, April 1, Governor Polis announced that Colorado schools would remain closed until April 30 due to COVID-19 concerns. Today, the Poudre School District and the Thompson School District both announced that they would stay closed for the remainder of 2019-2020 school year. Students in the Fort Collins and Loveland area will continue classes remotely.
'Poudre School District staff conferred with officials at the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment,' the Poudre School District website says. 'With the safety of staff, students and families top of mind, Dr. Smyser made the difficult decision to continue remote learning through the remainder of the school year and not re-open schools and buildings.'
The website also includes a video message from Superintendent Smyser.
Similarly, Thompson School District Superintendent Schaffer issued a statement.
'After close consultation with the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person instruction and to close district buildings in Thompson School District for the remainder of the current 2019-2020 school year,' the statement on the Thompson School website reads. ' We will continue with online and virtual learning opportunities that are currently being launched at the school level.' See the full statement here.
