During a press conference on Friday, May 15, Governor Polis announced there will be a moment of silence at 7 p.m. for the over 1,000 COVID-19 deaths in Colorado.

The Colorado State Capitol building, as well as police and fire departments across the state, will be turning on red lights in memoriam. Residents are invited to do so as well, as they give a moment of remembrance.

'Every number has a name,' Polis said. 'Observe that moment for our fellow Coloradans.'

Polis said Colorado is coming together to support those in grief, because most who have died were not able to be visited by loved ones in COVID-19 wards, and friends and family were unable to hold funerals and celebrations of life after their passing.

This is also a reminder, Polis expressed, to act responsibly and continue doing our part to slow the spread of infection.

Polis also addressed COVID-19 death numbers and how they are reported to the CDC, as seen in the video below, via Denver7's Facebook page.
