The 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was brought on to take over an investigation regarding a shooting that involved Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputies in Berthoud.

According to a media release from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, LCSO officials received a report of a suspected drunk driver in Berthoud at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28.

Ten minutes later, the driver and deputies exchanged gunfire at 2nd Street and Welch Avenue.

Fortunately, no deputies were injured in the shooting, as per the news release via the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. 

The suspect in the incident was taken to UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies with non-life threatening injuries and was later arrested and booked into Larimer County Jail, as per the the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) via a July 29 news release.

As of Thursday (July 29), the driver had yet to be formally charged in the case. Jodi Lacey, spokesperson for the district attorney's office, told the Coloradoan that formal charges were expected to be filed early next week.

"The CIRT investigation will remain ongoing even though formal charges will be presented," Lacey said in an email to the Coloradoan.

The 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was activated to investigate the incident. In addition, the Loveland Police Department will take the lead on the investigation; all further information related to the incident will be released by Public Information Officer Tom Hacker, as per the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
