No Selfies in Rocky Mountain National Park? Here’s What It Means
Colorado State University has teamed with the National Park Service to launch a new social media campaign about safety in parks, including, yes, the danger of a 'selfie.'
Katie Abrams and Tara Teal, two CSU professors, developed the campaign for Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Canon and more, as a way to effectively 'warn people about the dangers and problems posed by getting too close to animals in the parks.'
'The popularity of selfies and capturing any moment through photographs or video is posing a new threat to wildlife and humans. Trigger-happy tourists have started to provoke animals, and in some instances, alter their behaviors as a result.' - National Park Service
The campaign photos shared on social media are not only clever and funny, but they have actually increased the number of people keeping a safe distance from wildlife by 16 percent, according to Colorado State University.
