While people in Colorado can disagree on a lot of things, people who were born here always seem to agree on some level of annoyance with transplants.

Whether it’s the way they drive or their whole vibe in general, people seem to feel like the Centennial State is losing its identity with everyone moving here.

Of course, the biggest group of people who seem to absolutely adore moving here are Californians, whose presence has been bemoaned by some Coloradans for decades at this point.

For a long time, it ranked basically every year as the state with the most people moving to Colorado each year.

However, things have definitely changed in the last year, and now the majority of our transplants are coming from a different state now.

For many lifelong Coloradans, this one might sting a little.

That’s right, some people may have seen this coming, but with last year’s statistics finally being made available, Texans by and large were the biggest group to move to Colorado.

Typically, it’s in second place, usually getting outnumbered by California by a couple thousand people.

This time, we got far more people from the Lone Star State wanting a piece of the Colorado pie.

In total, 32,150 people from Texas moved to Colorado in 2023. In terms of people who moved to Colorado from inside the United States, that means 25% of them came from Texas alone.

California, naturally, took second place, with 26,148 people, meaning Texas blew it out of the water by 6,002 people.

However, the biggest group of people who moved to Colorado were from outside of the U.S. or were from U.S. territories, with 35,910. However, this is much more broad than just one state in general.

Where Are Coloradans Moving To?

As it would turn out, the people who are trying to leave Colorado are actually going to Texas.

In 2023, 25,369 people from Colorado moved to Texas. That far exceeds second place, which is yet again California, with 14,784 people.

That means over 10,000 more Coloradans moved to Texas over California.

In total, 211,370 Colorado residents moved to other states in 2023. However, with 232,663 people moving from other states, Colorado gained 21,293 people.
