E'Dena Hines, the step-granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman, was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend on a New York City street today at around 3 a.m.

According to authorities, police found Hines, 33, lying in the middle of a street with several knife wounds to her chest. Witnesses say Hines' alleged boyfriend could be heard chanting, "Get out devils! I cast you out Devils in the name of Jesus Christ! I cast you out!" while stabbing the woman.

The man was taken into custody and the knife was recovered at the scene. Hines was taken to Harlem Hospital Center, but could not be saved, authorities say.

"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," said Freeman in a statement. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

Hines' killer is currently undergoing a mental evaluation at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and had not been charged as of Sunday afternoon, a police source said.

Hines is the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife, Jeannette Adair Bradshaw - they were married from 1967 until 1979.
