Mishawaka Thanks Cameron Peak Firefighters by Raising $18,000
Even though venues and restaurants have had a difficult year, one of them just raised over $18,000 for the fire departments that protected them during the Cameron Peak Fire.
The historic Mishawka Amphitheatre has had many close calls with wildfires, but the Cameron Peak Fire, the largest in Colorado history, burned over 400 structures in and around the Poudre Canyon, and the Mish could've easily been one.
Highway 14, just west of the Mish, was closed for months during the fire, and the restaurant and venue told the Coloradoan most of its visitors were firefighters, who were fed for free.
While they still face the struggles of COVID-19 restrictions, the Mish held a fundraiser not for themselves, but for the Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District and the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. The venue's WinterWonderGrass Festival raised over $18,000 to 'thank them for continuing to protect our canyon and mountain communities.'
This week, the restaurant is having an outdoor Thanksgiving dinner (blankets and heaters included), and we look forward to the days ahead when we can once again see artists like Cold War Kids, Phantogram or Illenium take the stage.
