Volunteers placed military service flags up at the Veterans Plaza Northern Colorado in Fort Collins on Sunday (June 14) in honor of Flag Day.

However, The Coloradoan reports that when the volunteers returned to take down the flags, which represent the five branches of the U.S. military, at about 7 p.m., they were gone.

Founder of the plaza Diggs Brown told the publication that it would cost about $250 to replace the flags, which has become a lot of money for the organization due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brown hopes that whoever stole the flags will return them, noting that volunteers might have to take shifts watching the plaza the next time temporary flags are put up.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that someone has targeted the plaza.

According to The Coloradoan, someone had previously vandalized its digital screens that share facts about local veterans.

You can visit the plaza, which opened in 2011 to honor Northern Colorado's veterans, at 2626 W. Horsetooth Road near the Spring Canyon Community Park.

Donations can be made to the Veterans Plaza here.
