May Play Music Festival 2016: Shelby’s Must-See Bands

May Play Music Festival 2016 is coming to Downtown Greeley this Friday, and while The X loves bands of all shapes and sizes and sounds, we've had the pleasure of luring some of these acts into our studio. 

As the host of LOCAL X, I'm not about playing favorites, and the rest of the band bill is looking pretty great; I just feel it's my obligation and social responsibility to warn you that you'll be in for a really good time with these:

Silver & Gold - 7:30 p.m. VaporCore Main Stage

The five-piece alternative rock group may be a household name in Greeley by now, but if you don't know them, get acquainted with them at the Moxi some time. Also, as a station that packs a lot of estrogen (sorry, Drew), we love seeing Claire Jensen up there on the keys, opening for bands like Night Riots. #badassbabe Honorable mention: Bassist Brandon Vela's sweater collection.

P O P F I L T E R - 9 p.m. Patrick's Irish Pub

Later in the summer, they'll be playing Divide Music Festival, among the likes of Bleachers, St. Motel, Cake, Miike Snow and more, if that tells you anything about Denver's emerging indie pop group.

Slow Caves -  9 p.m. VaporCore Main Stage

Uh oh, looks like you'll have to choose... You know them. You've heard them DJ on The X. And, of course, you love them. (OK, so if you don't know them, just venture over here and spend some time with the Fort Collins synth punks, Slow Caves -- you'll be glad you did.)  The Beach Boys' harmonies meet The Strokes' edgy post-punk sound, in one brother-fronted band.
