When you live in a small space, it's not always easy to make your home feel very festive around the holidays. Here's a DIY Christmas Tree that we did in my house that could work for you too!

DIY Christmas Tree

Our house is set up kind of funny... We have one of those front rooms right as you walk in the front door that is supposed to be a living room. Most people use them for sitting and gathering, so it mostly goes unused in most homes that have them, right? We use our family room which is right next to the kitchen as our main living room but it's not very spacious. When it came time to put the Christmas tree for the first time last November, we decided it would be best to put our tree out in that awkward front room because there was way more room there and it would be a nice first impression when people came over during the holidays. The issue was, it left our main family room area without a tree and I love Christmas so we had to fix that.

How do you fit a Christmas Tree into a small room?

We did some digging, found some fun ideas of what others had done in their smaller living areas, and came up with the coolest Christmas DIY project I think we've ever done. It's a flat Christmas Tree that you have up against your wall that takes up virtually no space outside of where you place it on the wall. Brilliant.

How do you build a wall Christmas Tree?

We took an 8 foot 1x4 board and zipped it in half making it two 1x2's. Zipped the top edges diagonally so that the boards could line up to give us our treetop point. Used wall anchors to mount it onto the wall and then begin to decorate. We used lit garland to go around the border but you could probably skip this part and just go side to side filling in the space and covering the wall. We used about five 12 ft garland pieces but that will vary based on your tree size.

After we covered the wall with lights we decorated it with pictures of the kids with Santa over the years but you could absolutely use traditional ornaments as well.

For someone who's not so handy, this was a piece of cake, and from afar, it looks like a real tree which is so cool. So there you have it, a fairly cheap, really compact DIY way to doll your small room up for Christmas. Merry Christmas!
